CLASSIC ROCK FOR MODERN TIMES ...

About blastroom

Based out of Western Connecticut, Blast Room was formed in 2004 and is comprised of accomplished, professional musicians. Rock is Dead is the bands debut CD released in 2006 on Generic Records and distributed by Sumthing Distributors, N.Y.C.

As well as musical diversity, the bands songs feature powerful vocals, catchy melodies, killer guitar riffs, driving bass and thunderous drums. Their influences range from classics such as: Zeppelin, AC/DC, Hendrix, Rush, Aerosmith, along with more modern sounds of Velvet Revolver, Audioslave, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Blast Room has captured the essence of these styles and more, creating their own unique sound along the way.

blast room is:

ROB JACKSON - LEAD VOCAL
Lead singer Rob Jackson has recorded and performed in numerous original and cover groups throughout the tri-state area. From heavy metal to rap to alternative rock, Rob has sung in every type of venue imaginable. Ever in demand, he also sings for a popular Rush tribute band called Limelight. In 2005, they were voted best tribute band nationwide and were invited to play live in Toronto for thousands of fans. Rob now combines all of these vocal influences together, which he delivers with soul and attitude, making his voice the perfect match for Blast Room.

ROGER FILGATE - GUITARS, VOCALS
Since his youth, guitarist Roger Filgate has played in bands from New York to Los Angeles. During the 90s he joined the legendary British rock group, Wishbone Ash. Having recorded several critically acclaimed albums as both guitarist and songwriter, he toured the world extensively. This led to sharing the stage with such artists as: Santana, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Guns & Roses, Yes, Blue Oyster Cult, and many more. Regarded as a virtuoso, Rogers playing style captures the glory days of guitar heroes and is evident throughout the entire CD.

RUSTY CORSO - BASS
Like many of us, Russell (Rusty) Corso got his start in music by playing trumpet in grade school. As a young teenager he picked up his first bass, learning to play by ear, and at age 16 was already playing in clubs. Influenced early on by Motown and groups like Earth, Wind & Fire, Chicago, he later set his sights on rockers like Aerosmith, Van Halen, Chili Peppers, and Kings X. With years of countless cover and original bands to his credit, Russ comes from the old school of rock-solid bass playing with lots of feel. He is a welcome new addition to the band

CHRIS TATALIAS - DRUMS, PERCUSSION
Drummer Chris Tatalias has a great deal of experience with both live and studio work. Solid rhythm and dynamics are the result of having played in rock bands from coast to coast and as a drummer/percussionist for several theatrical productions. With a huge drum sound reminiscent of John Bonham, and chops like that of Neil Peart, Chris is Blast Rooms powerful backbone keeping a steady groove, while including elements of progressive-rock. He brings the perfect amount of technique and hard-hitting drive that, along with his band-mates, make this a formidable standout group.

GREAT STUFF!!, January 4, 2007

Great Guitar Player/Singer has a Voice to Die For/songs have great hooks ...... worth the price of admission!

A friend of mine told me about this band recently and after listening to them (nonstop) I still can't believe my ears. This is by far, one of the best rock albums I've heard in over twenty years. Not since Guns & Roses has a band come this close to a Zeppelin-type sound, and yet combine so many different influences from some of the greatest bands in history. These guys are a mega-blast of raw power, versatility, catchy songs, and world-class musicianship. More obvious influences are Zeppelin, Guns & Roses, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Rush. Also you'll hear in the mix Hendrix, Chili Peppers, Yes, Beatles, Van Halen. Even the CD cover is cool, reminiscent of The Who (very clever!). Never thought I'd hear a band like this again, Thank God for Blast Room!

UPDATE:
*** I just saw them play last week in Stamford (CT) and they totally ROCKED THE HOUSE! It's hard to believe, but they're even better live. They opened with a guitar-ripping version of the 60's Courageous Cat cartoon theme, which Filgate burns up the frets in a more rockin Brian Setzer style. The rest of the set is awesome to say the least! This is one hell of a band - check 'em out when you can. 11/22/06

DR MUSIC REVEIW

"Rock Is Dead," heh hardly.

The day former Wishbone Ash guitarist, Roger Filgate, chose to use "Rock Is Dead" for a working title, I'm sure he spent the better half of it chuckling at the dubious irony. This explosive, loaded freight train serves as a Guitar Rock defibrillator, if anything. Rooted in a hard rock garden, this Aerosmith / Led Zeppelin-fashioned fruit is succulent and ready for picking. Filgate takes the hard rock guitar solo and breathes new life into the dying art. With riffs, licks and heavy grooving that brings thoughts of acts like Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Guns 'N' Roses and former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Jake E. Lee's short-lived Badlands project, Blast Room is an air guitarist's paradise.

When I first heard the opening track, "Feel So High," my immediate thought went to the heavy Blues Rock groove jamming of Badlands. As the record rolled on I started hearing pieces of so many great things that I had fallen in love with in the past. Think of this as a 10-piece jigsaw puzzle, with each piece emblazoned with your most memorable musical memories. As you start to assemble each of these pieces though, you start to find out that the completed picture is not a collage of old greats, but it is a stunning portrait of Roger Filgate and his Blast Room bandmates. This band has the limbs of those that came before them, but a heart all its own.

Besides Filgate's stupendous guitar work that stretches throughout the entire record, there is another chilling sensation at work here. Vocalist Rob Jackson delivers a strong and passionate performance as he caresses the delicate strains of "Need To Know" and wails feverishly through the title track. With "Need To Know" being reminiscent of a "No Quarter"-era Zeppelin, and the title track having the hard rock fervor of a Guns 'N' Roses rhythm, Jackson shows great versatility and vocal prowess. Bassist Sandy Nardone (Pound / Mr. Mudd) and drummer Chris Tatalias from New York-based Aerosmith tribute band Rag Doll, make for a rollicking good time as the rhythmic backbone of Blast Room.

If you are a fan of the guitar, you will love the six-string injection that Filgate offers up here. If you are a fan of the classic hard blues rock sounds of bands like Aerosmith, Badlands, Cry Of Love, and Zeppelin, you will fall in love for many different reasons. If you are a fan of putting the headphones on and pulling out the air guitar, start pumping your fist in the air and get into a Blast Room CD as soon as possible.

PITRIFF ONLINE REVIEW

I am loving the turn back to great hard rock albums that we have been experiencing the past year or so. From the heavy end of the spectrum with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and BRAND NEW SIN to the more melodic like Russell Allens ATOMIC SOUL and BLACK STONE CHERRY there is heavy 70s feel to some of this music. That trend continues here with BLAST ROOM on Rock Is Dead. This reminds me of a nice cross between BADLANDS and COLLISION, heavy on the BADLANDS end of that mixture. BLAST ROOM is the vehicle of ex-WISHBONE ASH guitarist Roger Filgate, but is just as much a showcase of the outstanding vocals of Rob Jackson. These two just light the place up with great rock anthems like Feel So High Get Up Never Let You Go and the title track. The best song here though is Still, which is one of my favorite songs of 2006 so far. I dont usually tout a ballad in my reviews either, but Need To Know is just that good. Really the only complaint I could make about Rock Is Dead is that it is a bit on the short side, but who cares when an album is this much fun. PITRIFF RATING 9/10

CD BABY REVIEW

Hey all you fans of classic bluesy hard rock with great vocals and killer riffs...run out and buy this CD asap!!! If your into bands like Badlands and The Scream your going to love this disc. Rob Jackson has one powerful set of lungs...and guitarist Roger Filgate who played in the revamped version of Wishbone Ash a few years back has the riffs to rock your world...and never overplays. I haven't heard one weak track on this album...this is very classic sounding heavy rock with a 70's vibe.
